Katelyn Kennon, LCSW

Clinical Advisor

Katelyn Kennon is a licensed social worker focused on trauma healing, chronic illness and disability care, and sexual/relationship concerns in IL, TX, and DC. As someone who has sat on both sides of the therapist’s office, I deeply believe that healing is possible for everyone. I view the main vehicle for this change as connection: with me, with yourself, with your body, with others in your life, with your environment, and with broader social movements and communities. My approach is eclectic, meaning I draw from a number of treatment modalities and tailor our sessions to what works best for you. I have a particular interest in modalities that are trauma-informed, feminist, sex- and kink-positive, non-pathologizing, somatic, and oriented toward liberation for all. Regardless of modality, I believe that our therapeutic relationship is a critical component of good therapy, and I will invest in building a safe and trustworthy connection over time, through curiosity, authenticity, and transparency. It’s important to me to understand and address how power, oppression, and your multifaceted identities influence your life, as none of us heal in a vacuum. My goal is that all parts of you feel seen and understood as I support you in becoming your most authentic self. I will partner with you to develop insight into your emotions and relationships, clarify your values, situate your experiences within larger patterns and contexts, and cultivate the skills you need to best advocate and care for yourself. I believe that you are the expert of your life, not me. My style is humble and non-judgmental, centering your consent and prizing dialogue over directives. I approach the work with compassionate candor, intuition, creativity, and (sometimes) even jokes. In addition to being a therapist, I am a UMich PhD candidate writing my dissertation on campus sexual assault prevention.
